OUR ZINC

How is zinc oxide different and what benefits does this ingredient offer the skin?

Our mineral non-nano zinc oxide sunscreen formulations are ideal because they exclude dangerous chemical agents which are present in most commercial chemical sunscreens,  these chemicals break down in the presence of UV and generate their own free radicals, free radicals are responsible for breaking down our skin’s collagen, resulting in unflattering skin blemishes like wrinkling, dark spots &  fine lines.

Our physical sunscreens sits on top of the skin and reflects the sun’s rays.

Zinc oxide is photo-stable (resistant to change under the influence of radiant energy and especially of light).

Our non-nano Zinc Oxide is:

UVA/UVB  Broad Spectrum

Non-Nano

Reef Safe

Vegan, Natural & Silicon Free

Certified as compliant with the Natural Product Association

And we believe Zinc Oxide is the only safe and completely natural active providing protection against, premature ageing, reflecting UV rays and high-energy visible (HEV) light. Also referred to as blue light, HEV light is primarily from the sun, but it’s also emitted by your smartphone, tablet and computer screen. By any name and from any source, a growing amount of research is proving how destructive HEV light is for your skin. and infrared radiation that damages cells via free radical generation. Not only that it is a known anti-inflammatory and can help those struggling inflammatory conditions like acne or rosacea.

Wear sunscreen every day!

What are the nasty ingredients you would recommend people avoid in traditional sunscreens?

We believe all chemical sunscreen’s have nasty ingredients not only for your wellbeing and skin but also for the environment. Chemical sunscreen absorbs into the skin and then absorbs UV rays, converts the rays into heat, and releases them from the body

AVOID the following ingredients Identified as potentially toxicand/or carcinogenic

Octinoxate, Avobenzone, Cinoxate, Octocrylene, Ensulizole, Padimate, Dioxybenzone, Oxybenzone, Octisalate, Homosalate, Meradimate, Sulisobenzone

What health implications can these nasty ingredients have on overall health and wellbeing?

Oxybenzone  This ingredient penetrates the skin and is also used to help other chemicals penetrate the skin, Also listed as a direct cause of coral bleaching by Robert Davanero et al

Avobenzone, also a benzophenone This ingredient works the same as oxybenzone in that it penetrates the skin and is also used to help other chemicals penetrate the skin. It also photodegrades in with exposure to sunlight, increasing free radicals in the skin, increasing risks of types of skin cancer as well as photo contact allergies to sunscreens.

Cylcopentasiloxane / Cyclomethicone Silicone-based ingredients that are used in skin and hair care products. They soften the skin and smooth hair follicles, but they’ve also been shown to be toxic and to bio-accumulate in aquatic organisms. They are also suspected to be reproductive toxins and endocrine disruptors.

Formaldehyde, Diazolidinyl urea, Quaternium-15, DMDM Hydantoin and Hydroxymethylglycinate are all formaldehyde releasers. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified formaldehyde as a human carcinogen. It is also an ecotoxin

Homosalate It’s used as a UV absorber that helps sunscreen ingredients penetrate your skin. It bio-accumulates in the body faster than it can be eliminated and is considered a hormone disrupter.

Methylisothiazolinone A widely used and very effective preservative. It is considered a sensitizer and irritant, is associated with allergic reactions, and lab studies are suggesting that it may be a neurotoxin. It is also considered an ecotoxin.

Octocrylene A synthetic UV absorber and SPF booster. It may cause allergic reactions in those with sensitive skin and has been shown to bio-accumulate in the body.

Octinoxate / Octyl methoxycinnamate It is absorbed through the skin and has been found in human urine, blood and breast milk, showing that it is systematically absorbed. It is an endocrine disruptor that can mimic hormones. Also listed as a direct cause for coral bleaching by Robert Davanero et al – there is strong cause to avoid all products using this ingredient

Parabens These ingredients can mimic the hormone estrogen which has been known to contribute to breast cancer and can also mimic other hormones in the body.

Phthalates Commonly found in synthetic fragrances, block male hormones and can interfere with normal genitalia development. High levels can cause sluggish sperm and low testosterone levels in adult males. These are also classified as endocrine disruptors that can interfere with normal brain function. Although this doesn’t guarantee there are no phthalates in the formula

Quaternium-15 Used in low concentrations, it is still classified as a skin, eye, and respiratory irritant. According to SafeCosmetics.org:
